Bringing a new puppy home? Having a new puppy is always exciting and you’re going to have a lot of fun together. However, the minute cuddly puppy turns into a devil, it can also wreak havoc. Thus, you need to find different ways to protect your precious new arrival as well as your comfy home.

To help you out, here some of the tips are given to puppy-proof your apartment.

  1. Create a Private Space for Your Dog

Along with love and attention, make sure to give perfect private space to your puppy. While setting up space, include a bed for your dog to rest or just for them to have a comfortable place. Furthermore, keep clean and fresh water accessible for your dog.

  1. Examine Your Apartment

Make sure to examine your apartment from your pet’s point of view. If possible, remove, hide, or cover up any items that might be too tempting to chow down.

  1. Include Non-Toxic Houseplants

Nontoxic plants are a great way to add greenery to your apartment. However, choosing pet-friendly houseplants for your home doesn’t mean your puppy can chew it freely.

  1. Buy Puppy Pads

Most puppies need to relieve themselves once they come out of their crate, wake up from a nap, and after the meal. Thus, to protect floors and carpets, you must invest in puppy pads. If you live in an apartment, you must start house training your dog with puppy pads.

  1. Secure Garbage

Puppies can fall in the open trash basket and become seriously ill or injured. Thus, keep your trash away from their access or lock it away securely. You can include the dog-proof trashcans to prevent garbage diving in your apartment.

  1. Pet-Proof Electrical Cords

Your apartment is full of electrical cords and if your pet chews on an electrical cord, it risks electrocution. There are several effective options to keep cords covered or out of the way. However, it is better to invest in pet proof household electrical cords to prevent electrocution of your pet and to keep devices safe.

  1.  Have a First-Aid Kit

Despite your best efforts, you cannot shield your pet from every possible danger every time. Thus, a responsible pet owner should keep a pet first aid kit handy. Include bandages, non-adhesive absorbent dressings, surgical sticky tape, and a box of cotton wool in your dog first-aid kit.

Whether your puppy just arrived or is on its way, follow the above-mentioned tips for puppy proofing your apartment.
